The Pride Icon Collection

“We recognise that there are many different ways to represent these terms, as well as many important terms that still need representation, and we hope this collection continues to grow over time to fill critical content gaps in iconography.”

The Noun Project hosted an Iconathon design workshop at the SF LGBT Center dedicated to creating new icons that better represent and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. Throughout the day, participants collaborated and brought abstract concepts to life, visually defining terms like "Ally" and "Advocacy" to visual representations for "Pride", "Transitioning", and "Gender Identity". With the sketches complete, the group selected the designs that best brought each idea to life. Teams discussed the inspiration behind their choices, showcasing the creativity and intention woven into every line and shape.

Building on the outcomes of the workshop, I was tasked with developing 30 selected Iconathon sketches into a cohesive icon collection, aligned with the visual language established by theRedefining Womenand Accessibility icon collections. This work translates collaborative concepts into a scalable design system, expanding the visual language of accessibility and inclusion while providing designers and communities with thoughtful, inclusive tools for communication.
